It's about time to update!

Today I am one month and three days away from leaving.
Every once in a while I get a surge of excitement and can hardly hold it in. It's hard to imagine what being a foreign country for three months will be like. I'm so so so excited to see Doug and get to spend time with him. We've talked a lot over the past six months of dating. It's been wonderful. We've learned a lot about the other's humor, past, family, joys, pet peeves, passions, and thoughts.. But the dynamic is different when you're in the same place together actually doing things together and not just telling each other what you did on your own. You learn more about that person by experiencing things with them, and learning what they're like in the moment. You learn how they deal with various situations, how they treat people, how they think, and how those thoughts in turn direct their actions. It all sounds so obvious, but to Doug and me, being so far away from each other, there is so much that still seems mysterious to us about each other. I can hardly wait to get to know him more, to be even more challenged by him than I already am in regard to our individual relationships with the Lord, to laugh with him, and to have the hard conversations that inevitably come with serious relationships. We both have the mind that relationships take work. And as far as we know about each other, we're both willing to put that work into it. Sometimes that work is waiting on the Lord. That's something I've been learning more and more about over the past year. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to learn such a valuable lesson.
I'll do my best to post more later. :)
